An overview of the Lookalike feature

5 min. readlast update: 10.18.2023

Have you had previous success doing business with a particluar company, industry, location or company size and you want to target similar companies and contacts that fit a similar profile?

Our Lookalike audience feature helps you identify and target more companies and contacts based on a set of filters that match those of similar companies, meaning you’ll be able to create a Lookalike audience to reach more prospects.

You can do this by manually adding company domains, uploading a list of target accounts or creating a list based on your previous successes. This will help create a Seed Audience to derive Firmographic filters from. Firmographic filters are filters based on shared company attributes such as industry, location and company size.

Follow the steps below to create a Lookalike audience by manually adding company domains. The steps will vary slightly depending if your account has Intent set up on it.

If you have Intent set up on your account:

  • Click Intent and Settings as shown below:

  • Click Lookalike as shown below:

  • Click the View/Edit button under Seed Audience as shown below:

  • You can scroll down to the section below called Adding Domains to move to the next stage of the workflow.

If you do not have Intent set up on your account:

  • Click on Search and Settings as shown below:

  • Click on Lookalike as shown below:

  • Click the View/Edit button under Seed Audience as shown below:

Adding Domains

  • You have two options shown below to Add Your Own Domain or Import A List of Domains. The example shown below shows the domain of google.com being entered, which will create a Lookalike audience consisting of companies similar to Google:

  • If you chose to upload a CSV file with a list of companies, then the CSV file must contain the company domain(website) on it.

Adding Cadences and Won Deals

As well as adding company domains to your Lookalike audience, you can add Cadence Successes and Won Deals to your seed audience. By activating these options, the platform will automatically check whether there is a connected company to a successful cadence or a won deal from one of your pipelines. It will use that company's domain and add it to the seed audience.

  • These options are shown below, and you also have the option to select a pipeline for the won deals you want to be included:

Saving your Seed audience search

  • You will now see your Lookalike search results with a list of contacts belonging to lookalike companies similar to below:

  • You also have the option to adjust your Lookalike audience by changing the search filters as shown below. This can help narrow down your search and reduce the number of results:

  • You may want to exclude the company that your Lookalike search was based on, particularly if it is a company you have already secured business with and you no longer wish to target. You can do this by clicking on Company Criteria and Exclude Company Name as shown below:

Lookalike audience within the Intent tab

If you have Intent set up on your account, you will see another tab in the Intent area that has been added called Lookalike. This shows all the companies from your intent data who match the Lookalike criteria you set up in the previous steps. It helps filter your Lookalike audience further to companies who have shown intent based on your intent triggers.

  • Click on Intent and Lookalike as shown below:
undefined

  • We have also added the ability to drill down further and only show the companies that are matched against the specific sources and triggers from your seed audience as well. By selecting the Intent Matched switch you will get another filter to choose whether to Match On Source Only, or to have a very defined view of Match On Source & Trigger:

Importing Lookalike filters to a contact search

As part of a contact search, you also have the option to Import Lookalike Filters and Import Target Persona Filters which have their own buttons as shown below. This means you can easily add your Lookalike filters to a new contact search without having to manually add them every time a new search is created.

Note: The Import Target Persona Filter button will only appear if you already have a target Persona created

  • When creating a new contact search, click on the Add Filters button as shown below:
undefined

  • Click on Import Seed Audience Filters or Import Target Personas as shown below:
undefined

  • Filters that were used on a previous Lookalike search or a Target Persona will now be applied to your contact search.
