FAQ: Do I need a Dedicated IP?

2 min. readlast update: 10.18.2023

There are two things to consider when deciding if you would like your own dedicated IP: volume, and whether you want to share IPs with other Zym users.

Currently we have a range of IP addresses that our users send through. Depending on the sending volume and reputation we will move you between those IPs to protect both your reputation and that of our IPs.

The benefit is that the number of bounces and spam reports that people may receive will be diluted and not raise significant flags which would result in reputation damage. Basically any bad sends will go under the radar in this system and if an IP’s reputation is compromised or gets blacklisted we can move users to another IP. Then gradually re-introduce this IP back into the sending pool.

However, if you choose your own dedicated IP you will be solely responsible for the reputation of that IP, and if it were to become blacklisted or compromised your sends would be greatly affected. The other side of the coin is that other people’s sending activity would have no impact on your sends.

Another thing to consider is how regularly you send. On a dedicated IP you really need to maintain a high volume of sends per month to keep your reputation active. Inactivity if just as damaging as being marked as spam for example. You wouldn’t have this pressure sharing IPs with other users as there will be a consistent volume being sent each month.

Whichever you choose for your business, Zym has the tools and support to make your campaign goals a reality!
