Welcome to our guide on how to create and launch web pop-ups – the purpose of this guide is to provide an understanding of what a web pop up is, how it can be customised and how can it be launched via the platform.

What is a web pop-up?

A web pop up is a feature that can be added to your web pages without the need of a developer. By installing our website tracking code on your website, you can launch pop-ups to your website based on a set of criteria, all managed from the platform.

The purpose of a web pop is to turn those unknown visitors into leads and contacts, by offering them relevant content, offers sign up forms etc, that engage their interest.

How to create a web pop-up?

To get started – navigate to Build > Web Pop Ups.

To start building, simply select the “Build" button on the Pop Up widget.

There are two different types of popups:

  • Sign Up: This is when you want to embed a form on the pop-up  (Available Additional Collaterals: Pop Up, Pop Up Post Entry, Autoresponder).
  • Click Through: This is when you would add a button to direct your users to another call-to-action.

To get started – select the “Build” button on the type of pop up you would like to create (for this instance, we will be using Sign Up).

You will be asked to choose which additional collaterals you would like to add to the campaign:

  • Popup Post Entry Page: Allows you to offer an instant message to inform users their form was successfully submitted with the chance to offer the download they request or provide an additional call-to action etc.
  • Autoresponder: Works in the same way the popup post entry works, providing users with a response to let them know you received their request whilst providing additional information or call-to-actions etc.

The next step is to design your campaign collateral where you can either select one of your previously created templates, or we have a selection of templates that you can choose from.

Click manage > use template to navigate to the builder.

The builder works in the same way as the email and landing page builders.

Step 1: Customise

To start customising your pop up, simply hover over the yellow section – and select the pencil tool icon. This will allow you to change the width your pop up appears on your website

Next, you can add an “Overlay Colour” and “Overlay Opacity” – this will help the pop up to stand out from the website in the background.

By adding an overlay of #000 and setting the opacity to be around 40% will allow your website to be seen in the background of the popup.

By selecting the “Style” tab while in the editor – it will allow you to customise the background of the pop up, this can be either by a solid background colour, or an image from the platform library.

The next stage is to start editing your web pop up elements.

You can add basic elements such as headers, images, links etc.

You can also add a variety of form elements based on contact, company, custom and quick fields, depending on what you would like to capture from your audiences.

Once you have completed the design of your web pop up, select the “Save & Exit”, and continue to design the rest of your collaterals.

Step 2: Customise Features

undefined
  • Display On: This is where you set up where and when your pop up will be displayed and who it will be displayed to (good targeting will help maximise your conversions).
  • Select which devices it will appear on.
  • Select which pages it will / or will not appear on.
  • Select when it shows (on landing or after a certain number of pages).
  • Select how it shows (on landing or after a certain number of seconds to give the user some time on the page before showing the pop up).
  • Select whether it shows again (Always or never).
  • Select the effects of how it appears (Fading in, Sliding in etc).

Note: By selecting whether it shows again – it is recommended that this is set to “Never” to ensure it doesn’t annoy your users. This means it will not show the same pop up again during a user’s session. If they were to leave the site and come back in a few days, the pop up would then re-appear again.

  • Audiences: Allows you to set the target of who will see your popup.
  • All visitors to your website
  • Only visitors that are returning to your website
  • Only visitors that coming to your website for the first time
  • Lists

Allows you to add your leads straight to a list for further remarketing without having to do any manual work. You can select to add multiple lists here depending on the purpose of the campaign

  • Pipeline

Allows you to choose whether your web pop up leads are sent to the pipeline for the sales team to manage. You can also customise which pipeline, which stage and who the owner would be for these leads.

Note: You can choose not to send leads to the pipeline. You might use this if you have a newsletter sign up and don’t want sales to follow up until they engage further. You must have the pipeline tool activated to use this feature.

  • Autoresponder

Here is where you can set up your Autoresponder sender details (only if it has been added to the campaign).

Note: If you do not have the autoresponder designed or if you have not completed the autoresponder details in features – nothing will get sent to the user.

  • Notifications

Here is where you can set up automatic notifications advising your team that a new lead has been registered.

Note: You can add multiple users to be added to the notification, simply add each of email addresses separated by a comma – you can also choose whether you receive the notification in real-time, hourly, 7 am, or 7 pm.

  • Scores

Here is where you can add a score to every lead that is registered via this web pop up. You can choose from an existing score, create a new score, or apply no score.

Step 3: Publish

Next stage is to publish your Pop Up to the website – this can be done by selecting the “Publish” tab.

It will provide you will an overview summary of some of the settings that have been applied.

Once you are happy – you can select the “Activate” button.

Then select 'Save and Exit' in the top right corner.

In the Campaigns > Published tab you will then have the ability to view the campaign performance:

  • An overview of views, leads, deals, sales and value.

If you wish to turn your Pop Up off at a later date, you can do so by turning off the on/off toggle.
